The Among Friends Program is a social/recreation program for adults who live with mental health challenges that have significantly affected their quality of life.
At Among Friends we function on a model of recovery that focuses on health promotion, building friendships and the achievement of personal goals. The culture of our program relies on mutual respect of all of our members, staff, students and volunteers.
See what we are up to this month, June 2013
To qualify for admission into the Among Friends program you must be between the ages of 18 and 65, have a psychiatric diagnosis or be experiencing significant symptoms of emotional distress. As a program within LAMP Community Health Centre we also limit access to people living within the service delivery area. There are no fees to join or participate in this program.
Quite simply, Among Friends does all the fun stuff! A sample of our calendar is included on this page but the calendar changes all the time at the request of our members.
Scheduled Programs:
You may call the office at any time to make an appointment to join Among Friends. If you would prefer to have a friend, relative or mental health worker call us first that’s okay too. You’re also more than welcome to bring somebody with you to the appointment if it would make you feel more comfortable.
We ask that you please call for an appointment as opposed to dropping by so we may protect the privacy of our membership.

Monday to Sunday, 8pm to 12 midnight
The police may come to your door before an ambulance attendant, take a breath, be as calm as possible, try to listen and do what they ask. Police are not trained like any of the mental health professionals you work with so please don’t expect them to treat you the way we would.
The ambulance attendants will assess you and ask if you want to go to the hospital. If either the police or ambulance attendants believe you need to go to the hospital you will have to go whether you want to or not.
PLEASE – if this happens go with them as calmly as possible. If you try and resist once they have made this determination you may be in danger of physical harm.
