Brief Description
Operating since 1969, ASK! Community Information Centre provides a variety
of programs and services, including:
Community Information and Referral, Settlement Services for Newcomers
to Canada, Support Services for Refugees, Legal Information and Advice
Clinic, True Copy and Commissioner for Taking Affidavits Clinic, Income
Tax Clinic for individuals and families on a low income, Government
Form Filling for individuals and families on a low income, Emergency
Food Bank CAP - Community Computer and Internet Access Program, on-site
access to counselors from Ontario Works.
Target Population
Primary target group: Individuals and families residing or working in
South/Central Etobicoke.
Some ASK! programs
serve a specific target population i.e. newcomers to Canada, individual
and families on low/fixed income. Please refer to the ' Programs Offered
' Section.
Catchment
Area
South/Central Etobicoke for most services.
The ASK! Emergency
Food Bank has a specific catchment area - please refer to the 'Programs
Offered ' Section.
Waiting List
Community Information and Settlement Services are available by phone or
on a drop-in basis - usually same day service.
A number of services
are available only by appointment. There may be a 1 - 3 week waiting period,
depending upon high client demand for some services (i.e. Legal, Income
Tax Clinics, etc.). Call to check.
Languages Available
English, Russian, Ukrainian Spanish and Italian: available
Monday to Friday during regular ASK! hours
Albanian: Tuesdays from 2:30 - 8pm.
Other languages may be available on an on-call basis through other LAMP
programs and ASK! volunteers (i.e. Polish), etc. Please call to check.

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers play an important role in the delivery and support of ASK! services in areas such as:

| • | Clerical (database, ordering, literature, statistics, etc.) | |
| • | Updating and Researching community information and resources | |
| • | Income Tax preparation (March and April) | |
| • | New Immigrant and Refugee Support (translation, escorting, etc.) |
